Throughout history, women have always been beneath men in the amount of respect they received, the lack of equality of rights and more recently salary. Even though women are stronger than men emotionally and sometimes it seems women are stronger than men when it comes to giving birth and then taking care of the family, while still working a full time job, women still get the short end of the stick. Even the Catholic Church doesn’t recognize women as the head of the household. There is no wonder; the Catholic Church doesn’t allow women in the pulpit either. * What is the status of women in the U. S. oday? The current status of women in the United States has improved a lot in the past 80+ years. Women don’t have to stay at home and raise the children any longer, where in the past there wasn’t a question of it happening. Women now have equal rights in most areas in the country, but they are still behind in the salary department especially in specific industri es. Women now hold positions as CEOs of large companies, but again their salary might be a bit lower than that of a man working for a different company The fact that women can take on just about any occupation available is a big change also. There are many occupations that are male oriented, but women have busted through some of those walls also. * What are some examples of concepts or constructions of masculinity and femininity that you see in society and in media? Concepts of masculinity in society lately have been young men sporting short hair again and wearing button down shirts with jeans. Also some middle-age and older men are starting to grow out their beards. This is most noticeable in the media though. Examples of concepts of femininity seem to change too often to notice. It seems though that short skirts are on their way back though in general. I have not noticed anything significant with the women in media or even with celebrities. The only time anything is really noticeable is during the award shows, but then that is just fashion for one evening. * Historically, what has been the social status of GLBT people? Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgender and recently Questioning people have had a harder road than some of the larger minority groups in this country. Many years ago, being a ‘gay’ male or ‘lesbian’, might have meant they were going to lose their friendships or connection to family. The alternative lifestyle has opened up the doors of discussion in churches and all the way up to the White House. They have been an unaccepted people for a very long time. All the people of the GLBTQ community want is to have the same rights as married heterosexuals when it comes to marriage and adoption, as well as just to be accepted for who they are. * What is the status of GLBT people in the U. S. today? Today Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender people are a lot more accepted then say 30+ years ago, but there is still vast room for improvement. Depending on the state, it is now legal for gay men and lesbian women to get married. The same goes for adoption also. Currently there are about twelve states in the country that do not permit GLBT adoptions. That is because some of those states don’t recognize the couple as a true couple. They are basing their decision on the Bible, even though there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. Since the church does not acknowledge the GLBT lifestyle, they will never be accepted by the church. * What are some social and political issues relevant to women and GLBT people in the U. S.? In politics, women seem to be equal to men in the United States. The Supreme Court got their first female justice on September 25, 1981 when Sandra Day O’Connor was appointed. The next major milestone was the first Hispanic female justice. Sonia M. Sotomayor was appointed on August 8, 2009. Because of the last election, the senate has 20 female Senators, which is the most in history. Nancy Pelosi became the first female Speaker of the House. As for members of the GLBT community, there are a handful of gay men and lesbian women who are known in government. Their lifestyle choice did not stop them from getting elected which is hopeful in the long run. They were voted into office because their constituents thought they were the best person for the job. I think the political arena is tougher for GLBT to navigate because it is such a hot topic between church and state and Democrats and Republicans. A person that claims to be conservative won’t be able to also come out as someone from the GLBT community. Most likely because Conservatives don’t accept the GLBT lifestyle to begin with. Socially, women have the edge of GLBT people also. Women have been accepted socially way longer then they had the right to vote. Granted, the socialization was usually just woman socializing with women; it was still an acceptable thing. For the GLBT community, they tend to socialize more amongst themselves than in any other forum. Not saying, they won’t socialize at all with heterosexuals. If they aren’t socializing with people that know they are of that lifestyle, they are not making it known that they are of that lifestyle. REFERENCES Johnson, R. (2013). Where is Gay Adoption Legal? Period 1 Essays - Fiction, Literature, Arts, English-language Films

GHH Period 1 05/27/2017 Mr Jade English class Project of the final Today, we are going to mention about two books that we learned already were Of Mice and Men book of the author John Steinbech and Brave New World book of the author Aldous Huxley. Two of the books both have very good meaning as well as condemn about the brutal regime of each book that make us to mention about them today. Fist thing i want to compare the regime between Of Mice and Men book and Brave New World book. In Of Mice and Men book, they have many classes some of them are master class, farmer class as well as lower class. Lower class, they did not have any authorities or right to decide their life, they had to go to work to got money for the living cost and they were so poor, in social, Of Mice and Men womens did not have any rights they had to subordinated to their husband or their family. The Book Of Mice and Men of John Steinbeck were written to sent a message for reader that the loneliness was made by gender and classes, in Of Mice and Me n, the author John Steinbeck used the character Crooks to show how loneliness came from social divisions by race and of course they could not reach to the american dream that everybody always wish to have . Moving to Brave New World book of Aldous Huxley, everything were opposite. In Brave New World book, the reader learns that everyone in this civilization is a clone, the product of Bokanovsky's Process, This homogenization process has been perfected for the purpose of creating order in the world. Their world motto is "Community, Identity, Stability.". Lets analysis next point, everything were drawn by Aldous Huxley, he drew a wonderful new world not only without the loneliness but also have a lots of awesome thing that people in the old world never have. In Brave New World, their had five classes to maintain that stability, the World Controllers have devised a system wherein different classes of people (Alphas, Betas, Gammas, Deltas, and Epsilons) correspond to different levels of power, intellect, and wealth two of the most powerful were upper classes (Alpha and Beta), and three last lower classes were slave, Alpha and Beta dominated lower classes. It is opposite with Of Mice and Men book of John Steinbeck at point although in Of Mice and Men book poor people had the loneliness but they were not dominated by anyone. The second point between Brave New World book and Mice and Men were in Brave New World upper classes were molded have more right but in Mice and Men upper classes have more freedom. The next part that we are going to mention about between Of Mice and Men book and Brave New World is the love of each character's relationship. Through the book Of Mice and Men of the author John Steinbeck, i think you are already know the type of love as well the affection of George with Lennie, they have found companionship. George and Lennie, they watched out for one another. Moreover, they have a dream of finding a fixed place, where they could call home, a farm of their own, they were doing what they can do to against the loneliness. George also knew Lennie very well, they had been friends for a long time as well as they cared about each other and looked after one another. Even though George was mostly looking after Lennie than the other way around. Through this situation, you guy can see their relationship of love were phileo type and what is phileo type of love say?. It said: " Phileo love is brotherly love. This type of love is most often shown within close friendships. This is a generous and affectionate love that seeks to make the other person happy with no expectation for the acts of kindness to be returned", that is exactly what George did to Lennie, he was never thought to receive something back to him. Thus, everything were so clearly that George and Lennie's love were a phileo type of love,

Analysis of Surf Excel Essay Example

Analysis of Surf Excel Essay Example Analysis of Surf Excel Essay Analysis of Surf Excel Essay Hindustan Unilever Limited introduced Surf in 1959, introducing the first detergent powder into the country. At the time, housewives used laundry soap bar to wash clothes. Surf offered them significantly better clean, with much less effort. The promise of ‘Superlative Whiteness’ – the Articulation of a great clean at the time connected with consumers and helped to establish the Brand. Surf Excel was the first national detergent Brand on TV. The Advertisement Message:- The advertisement features a brother and sister duo walking home from school, when the little girl falls into a puddle of mud. Crying, she looks to her brother for help. Her brother gets an idea and starts â€Å"beating up† the puddle of mud, demanding anapology. After a time and a lot of mud on his uniform, he stands up and says, â€Å"Sorrybola. † The narrator then removes all apprehensions of dirt and stains and says,â€Å"Daag Acche Hain. † Execution Styles:- The advertising mantra, AIDA, is strictly adhered to. This is one of the reasons for its success. By showing a little boy and girl, the advertisement draws the attention of the viewers. When the little girl falls into the puddle and starts to cry, it creates interest in the minds of the viewers. When the tagline is spouted, it builds, in the viewers, a desire to know more. This desire often leads to action. Although there is no obvious targeting, it is done so through indirect means. Most mothers are concerned when their children come home in dirty and messy clothes. Creativity:- The advertisement does what seldom others to cater to the emotions and sentiments of the viewers and succeeds with it. Not only do the children lower your guard to the advertisement but the story too warms the heart of the viewers. The advertisement generates a sense of bonding. Viewers without siblings too, canrelate to the advertisement and the action of the little boy. The advertisement also includes certain warmth that reflects itself in the viewers. Relevance of the Product with the Advertisement:- This advertisement not only sends out the message that Surf Excel will help you wash them out but that also there is no need to fear of stains. Although the advertisement does not centre on the Product or Brand, still both are remembered. The Product and Brand are introduced to its viewers in a very sub consciously manner so that it enters their minds without any jarring highlights on the Product or Brand. This advertisement also does what the majority do not. It focuses on the people rather than the Product. The sentiments, actions and emotions of the people are highlighted and showcased throughout this advertisement. Overall Appeal:- This Advertisement of Surf Excel is universally loved by the viewers. This is so because it does a lot of things right. It makes use of children appeal to get the advertisement message across. The Product is kept discreetly tucked away and does not over power the commercial. Although Surf Excel is a premium Brand the advertisement caters to all the income grades and all classes of people. The Brand image created through this advertisement is phenomenal. The advertisement leaves people with a warm feeling. This feeling also transfers to the Product and Brand. Thus the advertisement can definitely be called an advertisement success.

An examination of factors affecting Inditex's online sales market in Dissertation

An examination of factors affecting Inditex's online sales market in Russia - Dissertation Example Much of the transactions over the Internet are performed without person-to-person interaction between the store representatives and consumers, and without the consumers viewing and inspecting the actual item to be purchased. Online purchase transactions are intrinsically based on intangible promises, which fact explains the natural reluctance of most consumers to immediately transact over websites. The study makes use of both primary and secondary data in the resolution of the research problem. Secondary data is relied upon to assess the direction and prospects of the Russian online apparels market, to determine the opportunities it offers and how Inditex could best position itself given the forecasted indicators. Primary data is gathered through the online dissemination of survey questionnaires that elicited perceptual data from consumers who were stratified according to whether they transacted seldom, moderately or frequently in online retail stores. The hypotheses were tested with the use of Student’s t-test and OLS regression analysis. The study found that trust factors (transaction security, customer data misuse, uncertainty reducing elements, and guarantees/ return policies) are the most significant and positively influential drivers of both decisions to purchase and the amount of purchases made. Marketing mix is also significant though less influential, with pricing strategies playing a positive role in the decision to purchase and the amount purchased. Finally, usability has some impact on both the purchase decision and volume transacted, but the direction of the relationship of these factors to the outputs is uncertain. Analysis of the Cartesian Proof for the Existence of God Essay

Analysis of the Cartesian Proof for the Existence of God - Essay Example Analysis of the Cartesian Proof for the Existence of God Rene Descartes’ philosophical enterprise is best understood within the context of the influential philosophical school of rationalism. To understand how Descartes came to offer a proof for God’s existence, it must be understood that his philosophical venture in the Meditations is in fact some sort of veiled theological treatise. In his letter to the Faculty of Theology of Paris, he writes: I have always been of the opinion that the two questions respecting God and the Soul were the chief of those that ought to be determined by help of Philosophy rather than Theology; for although to us, the faithful, it be sufficient to hold as maters of faith, that the human soul does not perish with the body, and that God exists, it yet assuredly seems impossible ever to persuade infidels of the reality of any religion, or almost even any moral virtue, unless, first of all, those two things be proved to them by natural reason. (Popkin 122). In trying to establish what ought to be considered as the reliable foundation of one’s beliefs, Descartes began his rational inquiry by doubting everything that can be doubted. It is only rational as per Descartes, to base all beliefs upon a foundation that cannot be doubted. Hence, he assumed that if he can arrive at that belief which can no longer be doubted, then he would have arrived at the only reliable foundation of knowledge. Material or physical foundations simply will not do, because they are not reliable.
